Aloha and welcome to my brand new blog! I’m new to the world of blogging, and this will be an adventure for me as I try to share my world of food, gardening and cookbooks with you. Why a blog you ask? Well, I have been reading other people’s blogs and the idea appeals to me as I feel it is a friendlier format than a website…I love to write about food, cooking and cookbooks…..and would like to hear back from you on these and other subjects. I have become friends with several foodies who have written excellent cookbooks and would like to introduce them to you. Please visit the links to their work on these pages. You can also check out my cookbook Tropical Taste , which is a compilation of articles that appeared for several years in the Hamakua Times My cookbook collection is quite large and I hope from time to time to share reviews with recipes I have tried from each. Gardening and using the fruits from the garden go hand in hand with the whole experience for me, so there will also be bits on gardening and using my garden's harvest. As we start on our newest garden project, I hope to share with you our ideas, triumphs and (hopefully not many) mistakes….! I hope to write in this ‘journal’ at least once a week and depending on the subject matter, maybe more often, so feel free to drop in at anytime….or better yet, why don’t you take a minute to sign up to receive notices when something new is added? Our island is a very exciting place in which to live and I can’t wait to share it with you, so please, grab a cup of your favorite morning beverage and sit with me a while. I would love to ‘talk story’ with you so anytime you feel like sending a comment I would be pleased to hear from you… Mahalo…..and let the adventure begin! Sonia

I have an Olympus E-500 Digital camera that I love!
Thank you so much for your comments about o0ur garden and the photos!

Hi Sonia,
I found your site from a post made over at http://cookiesinheaven.blogspot.com, in regards to Sunday's 'quake.
I'm located on the beautifully congested island of Oahu in Honolulu. lol I too am rather new to food blogging with one called 'The Tasty Island' you can find through my link. I added your site to my list of Hawaii Food Blog links.
I've got a cousin living in Florida who's married to former Cuban. They run an optometry office there and are doing very well.
Much Aloha,
Pomai

Aloha Lou!
Thank you for writing!
I have a good recipe for lomi lomi salmon and will share it, but I don't have a recipe for the laulau at Ka'upena. I'll see what I can do! My own laulau recipe is using scallops!

Hi, Sonia! I'm happy I found your blog. Although I live in Texas, I have several good friends in Hawaii (BI, Oahu, Maui) and get there from time to time.
When I was in Hawaii on the BI a couple of years ago we went to a "real" that is a home-based luau. My favorite dish there was lomi lomi salmon. Another dish my granddaughter and I loved was the laulaus at Ka'upena. Do you have recipes for those?

very cool. I admire your work and the work you went through to share it with everyone! I am all ears when it comes to gardens. I am very good with dead plants (weaving) so i am interested now in how to keep them green :)
I started my garden. I have pineapples and green onion for now.....and some weeds. I would love to have tomatoes but they wilted and died. I dont know what i did?
I also bought large, square, concrete hollow tile from home depot. I used them as above ground planting boxes, they work great.
great site.
Congratulations! and thanks for sharing.

Aloha Sonia,
Congratulations on your blog! I wanted to let you know the first column I read by you was a recipe for lilikoi daiquiris. I think I found it in the Trib. That was a few years ago, before I had any lilikoi growing. I planted a few, and this summer they produced plenty! On Labor Day, we had a family bbq at my home in Mountain View, and I made several batches of lilikoi daiquiris, using the column I clipped from the paper. They were a HUGE hit, and so refreshing. We used every last one of my lilikoi.
Have a great time with your new garden project! Cheers, Jessica
