The latest venture for the Hilo Coffee Mill in Mountain View is their new Farmer's Market. The Mill owners, Cathy Patton and Jeanette Baysa, are entrepreneurs with a very innovative spirit.
Located at 17-0995 Volcano Road, the beautifully landscaped Mill property consists of several acres planted in coffee and tea plants, gardens, drying shed, chicken coops and a beautiful central building housing their roasting facility and the cafe and gift shop.
Off the main building, in an easily accessible open area, they are now hosting a Farmer's Market, where several farmers, growers and producers get together every Saturday morning from 7 am to noon to sell flowers, rabbits, fruit, veggies, fresh baked breads, poi, dried opelu (a mackerel type fish), plants and as of this coming Saturday they have a new vendor offering Kava, chicken eggs and possibly even some chickens.
We bought papayas, avocado, chapati (a flat bread from India), a mini succulent plant, coconut candy and liliko'o (passion fruit) butter.
When we visited last Saturday we were happy to run into several friends we hadn't seen in quite a while...and took the opportunity to eat lunch in the Mill's Cafe.
Loeffler Farms sells fresh corn, poi and dried opelu
Mae Kaler sells very healthy veggie and herb plants - Moongarden Farm & Nursery
Betty Baker sells succulents in very clever containers!
"Handcrafted" fresh baked breads from Papa'a Palaoa Bakery
Delicious Coconut Candy from Hilo Coffee Mill, who was also selling a wonderful coffee-coconut tapioca, zesty salsa and beautiful papayas
These babies were BIG! We bought 6 papayas and they were ONO!
Orchids, tropical rhododendrons and other beautiful plants from Puna S[ecialty Gardens
Assorted cut gingers from H & S Farms
Beautiful assortment of orchids from Quintal Farms
Live entertainment was provided by a very talented young lady. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name.
Beautiful eggs, colored by Mother Nature
A variety of gifts as well as coffee and tea products and brewing paraphernelia is available in the cafe and store located in the main building
The cafe and store area also features a Coffee Bar
Some Saturday morning take time to drive to Mountain View and the Farmer's Market @ The Hilo Coffee Mill... and if you're a farmer or producer interested in being a vendor, call Cathy and Jeanette, they only have a few more spaces left.

Yes, she is there, Janice....she is recycling and using all kinds of stuff as containers....old colanders, steamers, the dump truck, etc....we bought a tiny little ceramic basket planted with a tiny leaf type succulent....so cute. The whole thing is no bigger probably than the size of my thumb meassuring from the knuckle to my nail!

Hey, I didn't know Betty Baker is there. Haven't seen her in a while. I should stop by. She's featured in my book, "Container Gardening in Hawaii." In fact, I think the dump truck is in there, too.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful market with us, Sonia. Lovely to see this color and warmth, as we face 10 degrees outside here on another coast - Rhode Island.

Very nice Sonia.
The lady singing is Jean Klewitz. I'm sure she'll be back. This week Yisa Var and her son Aisaiah (Michael Jackson) will be there along with Dennis and Christy Soares. All local Mountain View talent.
