Another birthday has come and gone...I cannot believe that a year has already passed since a group of friends joined me to celebrate my 75th last year!
This time around it was what my friend Brenda called my "Trombone Birthday"...!
No big bash this year but the celebration lasted longer... worthy of a parade with 76 trombones!...
It all started a week before my actual birthday with a sushi lunch at the sushi counter at Nihon (which closed its doors after 30 years. Hilo Bay Cafe will be opening at the site of the Nihon in mid-October!...and yes, they will feature a shushi bar and sushi chef Roy, who was with Nihon since the day they opened)...
...and ended with four friends who joined us Sunday evening for pupus they contributed and three delicious desserts made by Teena Barry of Teena's Cakes.
Top left - guava topped liliko'i charlotte, top right birthday cake with espresso pastry cream filling...both are decorated with handmade Sonia roses...below is a plate of petit fours also decorated with roses!
Birthday flowers from the Hilo Farmers Market on the back lanai... aren't they gorgeous?
The Charlotte is made with several layers of cake, mousse and cream fillings - guava topping!
"Pearls & Roses" birthday cake - layers of white butter cake filled with espresso infused pastry cream and vanilla frosting.
The Petit Fours - exquisite paper thin layer upon paper thin layer of deliciousness, topped with frosting and handcrafted lavender roses and peachy pink hibiscus.

This is the second event for which she has custom-designed delicious treats for us...the first was back in March for my son Anthony's "Castways" Birthday party.
More birthday flowers from the farmers market in the living room...
Can't wait to see what this year will bring..!
